Below is a little bit of what I've been up to lately. A little Press, a little News, and the occasional finished product in action.
First off, I can't believe this piece currently has over 10 Million views! Of course, having it front and center on the Game of Thrones Facebook page always helps.
Over the past few months I've been sucked into the Game of Thrones world. After cramming all 6 seasons into the month of July to wrap my head around the show, I was asked to create the stage and all it's elements for a 3D fly through to help promote the upcoming tour. It was definitely a new experience for me, and my first time tackling Pre-Visuals, so lot's of learning and experimentation were involved. This is the first of many marketing materials to be released for this show.
Here's a sample of Jake Owen's content when he recently performed "American Country Love Song" on Jimmy Kimmel Live. This piece was based on his music video done by Jeff Venable. Jake wanted to content to match the feel and look of his music video to keep the branding consistent, but also wanted some of his new style and feel mixed in to provide a new, yet familiar experience. We replaced the performance shots with matching scenic footage, overlayed with trippy aztech color patterns animated to the beat, and mirrored it to extend the footage horizontally. What we ended up with was a piece that set the right mood to bring the audience into the song, and that matched the new style and feel of a re-branded Jake Owen.
This spring I was fortunate enough to team up with Sooner Routhier of SRAE to design and create content for the 2016 Pentatonix World Tour. Along with help from Roman White on a medley piece and assistance from Shawn Hancock and Sam Medert from Moo Creative on Can't Sleep Love and New Years Day, this show was a blast to create. The group allowed a lot of creative control, which led to us getting to try out some new things and do what we do best. Sooner had some great ideas on the intro gag, and laid out a challenge for us to use only PTX colors for the entire show, it wasn't easy, but resulted in a beautiful show. Collaboration between lighting, video, and choreography from the very beginning produced a unified and cohesive overall look to the show.
While I was at Moo Creative we got a call from One Republic to create some live show content for the first single off of their upcoming album. They had a series of performances on The Voice in several different countries coming up, and needed a look to match the style of their upcoming music video for the song "Wherever I Go". We were sent the rough cut of the video and decided to take the scenic set pieces from the band's performance shots and re-work them for the live content. We only had 3 days to get the job done, and on top of that tight deadline, I got a call from my mom saying be ready to come home any minute because my grandad's health was getting worse by the day. To save time, we had Magnetic Dreams whip up 3D models based on the music video set. They were delivered the next morning , and I brought them into Element 3D to texture, light, and animate. I ended up doing a 24 hour session, hitting the render button at 8 am the following day, and walking outside to jump in a car with my extremely pregnant wife and 2 year old to drive to Cincinnati for my Grandfather's funeral. The rest of the guys at Moo ended up making few tweaks per the band's notes later that day, and we ended up with what you see here.
